At Thryve, we value your time—and ours. When you book an appointment, that time is set aside just for you. In order to offer the best support to all of our clients, we ask that you commit to attending your scheduled sessions.

If something comes up and you’re unable to attend, we kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice (two working days). This allows us a fair chance to offer the spot to someone else who may be waiting for support.

We understand that life happens—illness or unexpected emergencies do occur. If this is the case, please get in touch with us as soon as possible by phone on 0401 273 958 or email at info@thryvecounselling.com.au. If we’re in session and can’t answer right away, please leave a message.

Where late notice is given:

  • Less than 24 hours’ notice will incur 50% of the session fee

  • No notice (non-attendance) will incur 100% of the fee and further bookings may be paused until the outstanding fee is paid

  • Ongoing cancellations may result in being moved to a waiting list

Thank you for understanding—we do this not to be rigid, but to honour both your journey and the time and care we offer each client.

 FAQ:

How do I get started?

You can book directly via our booking page or visit our Contact Page for more information.

What training do the Thryve team have ?

At Thryve, we genuinely care about the people we support, and we’re intentional about who joins our team. Each of our counsellors is professionally trained and registered with respected bodies like the Australian Counselling Association, Christian Counsellors Association of Australia or PACFA. Our team includes counsellors with a range of qualifications, including Advanced Diplomas and Bachelor-level degrees in Counselling and Family Therapy.

We all keep our First Aid and CPR training up to date and meet regularly with professional supervisors—because we believe in growing alongside the people we serve. Our team brings experience working with children, adults, and families, using a range of practical, evidence-based approaches such as ACT, CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma-informed work.

Do I need a referral?

You have the option to self-refer or to have a family member, carer, or NDIS Support Coordinator refer you (with your consent). A referral from a GP is not required to book an appointment with us. For additional information,

Please visit our Contact Page for more information.

Do you offer online Appointments?

Our Counselling and EAP services are available for online appointments via Teams/Zoom or phone, based on your preference and requirements. Many of our clients find online counselling more convenient, private, and accessible, especially for those with busy schedules, remote locations or working from home. If you prefer an online appointment, please let us know when submitting your enquiry through our Contact Form.

How do I pay for my session?
  • We accept various payment methods, including cash, debit cards, and electronic funds transfers.
  • Invoices will be issued promptly upon completion of services or as otherwise agreed upon.

If your session is covered under your organisation’s EAP program, no payment details are required during the booking process.

If you have any inquiries concerning billing, please reach out to us directly.

Can I claim a Medicare rebate ?

Medicare rebates through a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) are available for registered psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists—but not for counsellors. While our counsellors can’t offer Medicare rebates, we’re committed to providing quality support and can help you explore affordable options.

Can I claim private health rebates ?

If you have Private Health Insurance with extras cover, you may be eligible for a rebate on counselling services. We recommend checking with your health fund to confirm what’s included in your policy.

Some of our counsellors are registered with the following health funds:

  • Medibank Private

  • Bupa

  • AHM

  • HCF

  • ARHG (including Police Health Fund, Emergency Services Health, Phoenix Health, St Luke’s Health, GMHBA, CUA Health – telehealth only – Teachers Union Health, and Westfund)

Please let us know at the time of booking if you plan to claim through your health fund, so we can ensure you’re matched with a counsellor who is covered.

Can I use my NDIS funding?

Thryve welcomes referrals for Counselling and Equine Assisted Therapy for NDIS clients who are self-managed or plan-managed. We provide brief therapeutic interventions, which typically last 6-8 sessions and are aimed at achieving a specific goal. To be eligible for our services, your NDIS plan must include the support category of “Improved daily living skills.”

Are you open after hours or on weekends?

We offer sessions on weekdays both before and after regular work hours, and on Saturday mornings fortnightly. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss your specific needs further.
